Myself and Evie Flewitt are both interested architecture, minimalism and creating art spontaneously. The brief was an open brief so we decided to take a trip to the Cathedral to get inspiration for our response to the Cathedral.

The scaffolding stood out to us immediately, I didn't realise how much the scaffolding engulfed the building both inside and outside. The shadows that were created by the scaffolding really captured my eye and so we decided our work will play with scaffolding and shadows.
The Sculpture

We played with various configurations using the 11 scaffolding poles we had gathered and after many experiments we decided to play with the idea of the sculpture decreasing in hight to emphasise shadow play.

The shape was limited by the amount and lengths of poles, but we accepted what the limitations where and created a shape the was both stable and worked as an interesting platform for us to play with.

Other factors we had to consider for this sculpture was its location, being outside we couldn't guarantee what the weather would be like so we produced various elements that we could adapt the sculpture too depending on the day of set up. With the exhibition being a short period of time the sculpture had to be pre planned, but could be adapted to fit the site, the other adaptions of materials had to be easily added and manipulated.

We chose the colours; blue, yellow and orange as these colours was the most common found colours with scaffolding.

The next images show the material play.
