Throughout my time at uni I am constantly looking and engaging with the environment, mainly the light source and its play with the architecture. Thinking about the degree show, I am constantly thinking about the audiences engagement with the work, which was highlighted by Bob Mathews talk. Thinking about how the audience first engage with the work, I took a photo of how a second year student suspended piece framed my wall and created a new composition.
I set up a camera to record the sunlight moving across my wall - to create time-lapse videos. With the set up of the camera being upside down, it gave a new perspective and composition that I enjoyed.
Playing with the idea of capturing information, I placed cyanotypes above all the materials above the head- wanting to collect the textures and information.
Placing cyanotypes above the interconnecting information above the head.

The Radiators have been a texture which has been hard to capture by photo - look like weird haze/fuzz. I tried to capture the texture by taking a rubbing but that didn't come out strong enough.
Walking around uni, out back of the wood workshop there was this pile of offcuts which were being thrown away. I wanted to play with laser cutting shapes out of wood and layering these to explore the compositions of what is happening above my head.
So before spending time and money I chose to take these off cuts to play with cutting them to fit into specific shapes- specifically the negative spaces in the RSG as they frame the information above the head.
I played the wood on top and came up with compositions, then cut the wood to fit in the hexagon shapes.
From working outside, I started to be intrigued by the shadows casted from the wood. I started to capture these shadows on mount board cut into the hexagon shape.
I enjoyed the process of layering and the shadows created from the wood.
The last image breaks from the hexagon shape and I created a composition from the shapes given by the wood.
Thinking of shapes and going more 3D, creating forms from the shapes found in the uni environment.
Looking at the walls- very texture- many layers of use. Enhancing my decision to take down the walls.
Looking back at my engraved wall - sun highlighting the marks.
Looking into the boxes i carry the wood in - played with the containment and created different compositions in the boxes. This thinking stemming off from Moyra's talks about the containment of art and its potential when not being displayed.
Looking back at the work from white project space - fitting the wooden pieces into the light - connecting the wall and floor.
exploring how the light interacts with the object around me - framing the light.
